Simulating Bistatic Scatter from Surfaces Covered with Vegetation
نویسنده
چکیده
Many exper imental and t heoretical stud ies have shown that the use of active sys te ms for moni toring plant biom ass suffers from saturation problems. The possibility of overcoming t his limit by consideri ng a bist ati c configuration is t heoret ically analyzed for the case of su nflower fields. An electromagnetic model , already developed and valid ated on active and pass ive data, has been mod ified to yield the bistat ic scattering coefficient, To t his end , coherent sca ttering from t he soil has been included , which resulted to be th e most relevan t component of specular scat tering. Accord ing to model simulat ions, t he specular scatterin g cross section norma lized to area does not exhibit seve re sat urat ion effects and shows a better sensit ivity to biomass at higher frequencies .

Bistatic Scattering Characteristics of Wheat and Soybean by Radiative Transfer Model in L Band and C Band
Compared with the backscattering configuration, the bistatic scattering echoes can provide multidimensional information on land surface. Based on the Michigan Microwave Canopy Scattering (MIMICS) model, a first-order microwave bistatic scattering model for vegetations is developed in this paper. The dominant scattering mechanism for wheat and soybean in the L and C bands is analyzed by simulati...
متن کاملUse of Satellite Radar Bistatic Measurements for Crop Monitoring: A Simulation Study on Corn Fields
This paper presents a theoretical study of microwave remote sensing of vegetated surfaces. The purpose of this study is to find out if satellite bistatic radar systems can provide a performance, in terms of sensitivity to vegetation geophysical parameters, equal to or greater than the performance of monostatic systems. Up to now, no suitable bistatic data collected over land surfaces are availa...
متن کاملA Forward GPS Multipath Simulator Based on the Vegetation Radiative Transfer Equation Model
Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) have been widely used in navigation, positioning and timing. Nowadays, the multipath errors may be re-utilized for the remote sensing of geophysical parameters (soil moisture, vegetation and snow depth), i.e., GPS-Multipath Reflectometry (GPS-MR). However, bistatic scattering properties and the relation between GPS observables and geophysical parameter...
متن کاملModeling Bistatic Surface Scattering Strength Including a Forward Scattering Lobe with Shadowing Effects
Both the rough air-sea interface and entrapped air bubbles due to wave breaking scatter sound in all directions and contribute to so-called reverberation in active sonar. There are monostatic sonar systems where the source and receiver are at the same position, bistatic sonar systems where the source and receiver are separated, and multistatic sonar systems involving multiple sources and receiv...
متن کاملAnalysis of Data from the . . .
This report describes the analysis of results of a Lincoln Laboratory experiment which consisted of a series of bistatic scatter and radar measurements of the scattering cross section per unit volume of rain and thin turbulent layers. Results of tbe experiment are presented as average and rms values of the ~ of the bistatic scatter cross section as calculated using the radar data to the cross s...
